Step Into Carrie’s Shoes On A Sex And The City Tour

Image via Wikipedia

If you are heading to New York for business or pleasure, you have to make time for the sex and the city tour. It only takes a few hours, and you get to see all of the places where Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha called home. The tour guides are fabulous, and share some great trivia about the show and the cast.

You will get to see Carrie’s front stoop. Although the audience is led to believe she lives on the Upper East Side, the apartment is actually in the West Village. Bring your credit card and forget about saving money in NYC for a minute, as the tour makes a quick stop at Jimmy Choo. This is where Carrie bought all of her shoes.

If you remember the episode where Charlotte bought her rabbit, you will not be disappointed when the tour bus stops at The Pleasure Chest. One of the funniest Charlotte episodes was at the ABC Carpet & Home. You will see the store where she and her future Mother-In-Law Bunny, had that famous fight over a bed.

The Scout bar, which Steve and Aidan owned, is actually called Onieal’s. Enjoy a cosmopolitan, and remember some of the great episodes that were shot there. Speaking of Aidan, you will go on location and see where he designed his furniture.

The bus will take you to the little church around the corner, where Samantha had a fling with the friar. This is also known as the actor’s church, so they were very accommodating to the cast and crew. The meatpacking district, where Samantha bought her apartment, is another highlight of the tour.

Miranda and Carrie loved cupcakes. Take the Sex and The City tour and you will be treated to a free cupcake at this world-famous bakery. A highlight is the chi-chi department store, where Miranda and the girls talked about Alexander Petrovsky. He was the reason that Carrie moved to France.

For 6 seasons, the women from Sex and the City shopped, ate, hung out, and partied in New York City, and millions of viewers did too. Relive those memories with the Sex and the city tour.

From The Big Screen To The Real Outdoors

Road Trip

The most obvious film that takes on the road trip is, of course, Road Trip. The film title may not seem intriguing, but if you’re young, into sex and like films like American Pie, then we think you’ll approve. The basic premise is a bunch of young men embarking on a proper American road trip to save one of the men’s embarrassments after he accidentally sent a tape of him having sex to his actual girlfriend – who isn’t part of the video.

Sure, it’s pubertal, disgusting and dirty, but we’d still highly recommend it.

Convoy

Convoy is a film that was made in the late ’70s and it is still as popular today as it was back then. It features a group of truckers driving on a huge road trip in a mile-long convoy to help one driver who has a vendetta against an obnoxious Sherriff. It’s a true American red-neck adventure.

Vanishing Point

There are a certain amount of epic car films that captures the mainstream’s imagination – and Vanishing Point is one of them. It features a proper man’s man in the form of Kowalski who works for a car delivery company. He picks up a Dodge Challenger and decides to place a bet that he can get from Colorado to California in less than 15 hours – and so the carnage begins.

There’s police chases, a blind man, gay hitchhikers, naked ladies and plenty of muscle cars – what more can you ask for? Vanishing point is a true road trip movie that lives up to all the hype.

Death Proof

Quentin Tarantino doesn’t make films that often, and when he does, they are usually incredibly good. Death Proof represented a Hollywood flop for Tarantino, but that doesn’t mean the film isn’t worth watching. If you fancy a bit of old-school acting for Kurt Russell and lots of screaming, half-naked girls, then Death Proof is the film for you.

The film sees Russell stalk two girls by an ex-stuntman who uses his Death Proof car to undertake vicious and bloody murderous events. Not for the fainthearted.

Death Race 2000

Another film with the word ‘death’ in it, but this one is well worth a watch if you’re into long drives in the country. Death Race is a show that contestants enter and score points for running people down as they travel across the country – sounds good and a bit weird, right? The insane ‘sport’ has willing suicidal viewers sprouting out of here, there and everywhere just to be run over by the contestants. As films go, it is an odd one, but it’s a quality few hours of viewing with lots of cars and death – which, as we know, is the perfect combination.

This guest post has been put together by Netcars – a specialist used cars search engine based in the UK.

A History Lesson About The Record Player

A gramophone cartridge with stylus for use on ...
Image via Wikipedia

These days we’ve got digital video disks , compact disks, MP3s, and of course the internet for all of our music needs. But none of them would have been possible without the advent of the record player, one of the more significant components of technology of all time. It was so cutting edge that after its invention in 1877, it took almost 100 years for it to be replaced by new technologies. And even now, record players have a vintage musical feel that ensures they are still extremely popular with fans of music everywhere. Nowadays, anytime someone thinks of a record player, it’s often the Technics or the Crosley Record Player. But more than a hundred years ago, the name that mattered most was Thomas Edison.

In 1877, Edison developed what he referred to as the phonograph. Edison’s initial records had been made of tinfoil. These records had a spiral groove that went up and down the surface area. A hand-cranked appliance with a pin, or stylus, was utilized to read the grooves of the record, vibrating based on the feel. This became eventually referred to as the hill-and-dale method. The vibrations ran up the stylus, through a metal tube, all the way to a large speaker. These early speakers made the vibrations into more audible sound.

At the time Edison completed his creation, he was much more interested in its numerous scientific purposes as opposed to what it could do with music. This left further enhancements to other inventors.

10 years later, Emile Berliner made the first disk record, and patented it in 1896. Berliner’s design took its origin from Edison’s, but instead of using the traditional hill-and-dale method, which had the grooves go up and down, his method, named the varying lateral direction method, featured textures on the edges of the grooves. The VLD caught on very quickly, and soon Edison’s original hill-and-dale method was no longer in use.

It was not long before mass production of records became possible when Emile Berliner invented the matrix record. This master copy enabled duplicate records to be manufactured indefinitely. At this time, record players were still hand-cranked. But with the late 19th century came the nationwide use of electricity. Then soon after the electric-powered record player was unveiled. Contrary to the hand-turned players that would range in speed based on the strength of the person, electronic record players provided consistent speed. This resulted in no variation in the tempo of the music.

Eventually, record players got so well liked that whole households gathered around them in order to enjoy quality entertainment. Early versions of the previous-song and skip-song functions of today’s waterproof Mp3 players were introduced during this time period. To be able to choose which tune was to play, a person placed the stylus in one of the blank grooves in between the textured ones. And for many years, the record player won the hearts of music fans.

With the seventies came cassette-tape decks and 8-tracks, and soon thereafter, records and record players seemed to be phasing out. However, when DJs became all the rage in dance clubs and discos, the turntable remained strong.

No matter what technology throws at us, music fans will always appreciate the record player!
