The Walking Dead is a TV series inspired by the comic book creator Robert Kirkman. It was adapted into a television series adapted by the AMC directed by Frank Darabont and its first season was released last October 31, 2010. The story is about the survival of a police officer Rick Grimes in a zombie apocalypse. In the Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1, “Days Gone Bye”, the protagonist experienced coma and awakens in a changed world overrun with zombies. On his road to survival, he met Morgan who also watched his back to survive the outbreak of the zombies. Rick tried to look for ways on how to protect themselves from the attack of the zombies, so he tried to return to the police station where he used to work and found out that the weapons remained locked up safely. On his way to find the other survivors, he ran out of gas and ended up at Atlanta where he met Glenn. Together, they discovered ways to disguise such as rubbing the dead parts in their bodies to fool the dead. Zombies however, are slowly moving and are easy to kill.

The Walking Dead was nominated for Best Television Series Drama at the 68th Golden Globe Awards and was named during the American Film Institute Awards 2010 as one of the top 10 television programs of 2010. Due to this success, producers were pressured to make the Walking Dead Season 2 to exceed the fans’ expectations. There has still no exact date on when season two will be released but Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman said that there will be an increased amount of zombie killing plus more exciting and thrilling adventures.

Fans Going Crazy Over Latest Batman Movie Trailer

Who would’ve thought that out of ashes of such horrible Batman films – you know, the ones with George Clooney and Mr. Freeze – could arise such a brilliant saga as that of The Dark Knight?

I certainly didn’t expect it, but after watching the first one I was enthralled with this film and the possibilities for more awesome Batman action. It’s as good if not better than the original 1989 Batman starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Then the second one came out and everyone went crazy for Heith Ledgers brilliant performance as the Joker, right before his untimely and tragic death – myself included, as this film topped the first one in my opinion.

Fans are now reliving the hype of the film franchise with the release of the latest trailer for the 3rd installment in this Batman series called Dark Knight Rises.

The third film will retain the brilliant direction of Director Christopher Nolan, known for his work with such hits as Inception – one of the best movies about dreams – as well as Memento, a wonderfully mind twisting backwards plot moving puzzle, The Prestige, and many others.

Harry Potter fans were treated to a wonderful sneak preview of the trailer and following this the trailer has gone live on the internet for the whole world to see.

Those involved with the film have remained tight lipped on the plot and haven’t released too much information, but it’s clear we will be treated with a new villain (new for the movies at least!) with Bane making an appearance in the trailers. The Catwoman is also expected to star in The Dark Knight Rises, as played by actress Anne Hathaway.

The makers of the film are doing a great service in viral marketing this piece so early in conjunction with Harry Potter. The web is anew with commentary and blog posts on this trailer, although most end on an excited note only to be dulled by the fact that the movie still won’t be coming out for an entire year!

Organize Your DVDs and Media With A DVD Stand

Do you know off the top of your head how many DVDs you own? If you’re like most, you probably don’t have any idea. That’s because your DVDs are probably stuffed away in a cabinet or closet somewhere, or littered across a shelf, or even strewn about the floor in your basement or garage.

Whether you’re single and living with a roommate, or married, or a child, odds are that this isn’t going to go over well with whoever you live with. If you don’t like arguments or like to surprise others, then its a good idea to look into buying a DVD stand.

There are all kinds of DVD stands available, from sleek, modern designs that will blend in, to smaller, less noticeable DVD stands that just serve their function. When trying to find a DVD stand, the first question to consider is how many DVDs you have. Buying a stand that holds 30 DVDs when you have 48 will be a waste of time. So prepare and count the DVDs you have, and then add 20 to 25 onto that total, because more than likely, you’re going to add to your collection over time. Generally these stands are pretty cheap though, so even if you do start to exceed the allotted number, you can always get a second one.

There are also some other factors to consider when buying a stand for your DVDs. If you have children, then go for a DVD stand that is durable. If you want a stylish stand, then go for wooden stands that will blend in with your current decor. If you’re someone who is craving ultimate organization and want all of your media in one location, go for a multimedia stand that will hold your DVDs, CDs, games, and BluRay Movies.

Finding a stand you like will be easy to find, so just figure out what meets your individual needs and get to organizing today!

Which is Better, Star Wars or Lord of the Rings

Cover of "Star Wars - Episode II, Attack ...
Cover via Amazon

Choosing the Ultimate Trilogy of All Times is a tough call. There are many contestants: Spider Man, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Jaws, Terminator, Back to the Future etc. If we are however to take into account total grosses, there are two trilogies that set themselves apart from all the rest and tightly compete for first place: Star Wars 1-3 and The Lord of the Rings.

Their fan base is enormous, to the degree that they both have annual conventions, festivals, anniversaries and they sustain a large fancy dress and merchandising production. To reach a conclusion we will base our research on scientific investigation, comparing and contrasting similar elements. Besides, as Einstein suggested with his theory of relativity, an object has certain attributes only in relation to another.

1. Originality: Star Wars 10 | Lord of the Rings 9

George Lucas’ trilogy is loosely based on The Hidden Fortress – by Akira Kurosawa. George Lucas has acknowledged this influence particularly the technique of telling a story from many points of view including from the film’s lesser characters. For his originality, creativity and ingenious script-writing adaptation skills we grant the movie a 10.

The Lord of the Rings is based on the Tolkien Trilogy as well as the Ralph Bakshi 1978 animated movie, which used a method of rotoscoping –a technique in which animators trace over live-action recorded images, frame by frame. Though impressive for its time, the animated movie seems naïve, not to mention that it generated mixed feelings. Michael Barrier, an animation historian said “that Bakshi was utterly lacking in the artistic self-discipline that might have permitted him to outgrow his limitations.” The Peter Jackson version doesn’t add much originality to the storyline, as it keeps faithful to the text, but we grant it a 9 for the sheer fact that critics liked it.

2. Characters: Star Wars 10 | Lord of the Rings 7

Both Frodo and Luke Skywalker are farmers destined to be saviors. Messiah type of characters who have a calling, despite the fact that they originate from humble backgrounds. Hayden Christensen’s performance wins the show in Star Wars as the dehumanized Anakin Skywalker. Even a real robot couldn’t seem so robotic and at the same time so symbolic of the mechanization of mankind. The characters and dialogues in George Lukas’ epics although following classic stereotypes (the hero, the anti-hero, the helper, the princess) were treated in a completely novel way compared with any sci-fi to date.

While Frodo, remains a multilayered character with psychological motivation (as Tolkien himself had intended him to be) and Elijah Wood’s performance is convincing, Lord of the Rings’ female characters are much more simplistic. Peter Jackson seems to be focusing more on displaying their beauty rather than developing their characters. They therefore come across as pretty and superficial and for this the movie loses points.

3. Visual Effects: Star Wars 10 | Lord of the Rings 10

Both films are renowned for their cinematography and special effects.  Although this alone is not enough to judge a film’s quality (storyline and character development is what normally captures a viewer) they are indicative of the work and inspiration that has gone into them.

In Lord of the Rings, the Gollum alone is enough to give the movie full points.

Star Wars was released over 30 years ago, which means that its special effects were not so advanced, however they were impressive for their time. More recently it has been re-released with CGI improvements while Lukas never stopped making his further improvements to the original releases. Star Wars also won an Academy Award for New Hope and has been nominated twice.
