Popular Anime Series Available on DVDs

Japanese animation has grown tremendously in popularity over the years. A once local phenomenon has become a worldwide past time. Heavy translation of both manga comics and animated series has lead to a global fascination with the unique culture and interesting stories told through anime.  Anime classifies a whole array of categories that cater to many different audiences.  There are children, adult, and countless other types of animated series to satisfy any interest.

Action Based Animation

Perhaps the most common type of anime is the action adventure story. There is a hero and he embarks on some journey or quest. This popular story line however, is often presented in new and intriguing ways. Animation can bring an old and tired plot device into a new light, creating excitement and interest in fantasy characters. Some of these shows quickly fall flat, while others like Naruto air for years, clearing hundreds of different episodes and maintaining a incredible following of viewers.

The only issue with this type of series is maintaining interest. Driving a simplistic plot through three hundred episodes is no easy task. The journey often consists of a number of throw-away episodes known as filler allowing the story and it’s plot line to stay ahead of the curve. These episodes can detract from the overall excitement of a series and cause lasting damage to a brand name if they aren’t developed correctly. Keeping a long running series packed with excitement is a problem facing any kind of TV show, not just anime.

Drama and Thrillers

Another adaptation seen in popular animation are short stories that target an older audience. Death Note comes to mind as a particularly well executed thriller.  It tells the story of a boy who is granted god-like powers of life and death and can use them at a whim. Dark themes clouded by ethics and moral dillemas run throughout the series, making for an interesting and exciting ride. The audience, a smaller and older group of people, is less specialized since they don’t need to watch hundreds of episodes to reach the shows conclusion.

Both types of series can present exceptional commercial success. Naruto is an obvious slam dunk for the producers, who have targeted a specific audience and delivered flawlessly. This combination is not easy to achieve. Establishing a fan base and keeping them satisfied with the direction of the series might be easy for awhile, but somewhere around the 300th episode it might get a bit difficult. Shorter series will always hold a bit of higher regard because they are cleaner and unblemished by silly side plots.

Death Of Michael Jackson May Have Been Preventable

Michael Jackson Ster

Image via Wikipedia

Two years ago, the life of one of the music industry’s greatest stars was taken far too early. At the young age of 50, Michael Jackson passed away before his time. Since then, a lot of effort has gone into figuring out the cause of Jackson’s death and whether it could have been prevented. According to Emergency Medical Technician Richard Senneff, his death was indeed preventable. The EMT testified at the trial of cardiologist Conrad Murray, who was Jackson’s primary physician. Murray is being tried for involuntary manslaughter.

Conrad Murray has been accused of prescribing lethal doses of anesthesia propofol and sedatives. Apparently, Michael Jackson had been struggling with sleep deprivation shortly before his death. Murray, who has plead not guilty, testified that he found Jackson not breathing and immediately began to administer CPR. Although Murray claims to have called 911 as soon as possible, his girlfriend at the time says that he was on the phone with her at 11:51 am on the day of his death, and stopped talking to her soon after he discovered that Jackson was no longer breathing. However, the 911 call was not placed until 12:20 pm. This means that there would have been at least a twenty-minute delay between the time Murray discovered Jackson not breathing and when he actually placed 911 call. EMT Richard Senneff believes that Jackson’s death could have easily been prevented, if only Murray had called a few minutes sooner.

According to Richard Senneff, there was more than one way in which Michael Jackson’s death could have been prevented. The EMT alleges that in addition to placing such a late 911 call, Murray also lied to the the emergency medical services about Jackson’s underlying heart condition. When asked whether Jackson was on medication, Murray first told Senneff that he wasn’t, and then changed his answer to include sedatives. However, he did not tell the EMT that Jackson was on anesthesia propofol. Senneff feels that the lack of accurate medical background knowledge also contributed to emergency medical service’s inability to revive Jackson. Two days after Jackson’s death, Murray finally admitted that he had been administering intravenous doses of anesthesia propofol for at least two months. He said that Jackson had administered the fatal dose of the medication while Murray was in another room.

The jury has yet to decide whether Conrad Murray is guilty of involuntary manslaughter. With reliable testimonies from Murray’s girlfriend and the EMT that responded to the 911 call, as well as more evidence likely to follow, it doesn’t look likely that Murray will be acquitted of the crime he committed.

How to play Guitar for Beginners

Have you started playing guitar lately? It’s hard when you are starting out and when you have a very few resources. But there are actually some things you need to do first to make the most of your guitar playing. Once you focus on these guidelines, you’ll be off the beginner phase already. Try to check on them on these ways on how to play guitar for beginners.

Get a good guitar

First and foremost, one should have a good guitar. One that sounds well and that is fine with your playing. If you are still planning to buy, you might want to check on this checklist to get the best guitar:

  • It should tune well
  • Stays in tune
  • You should like it
  • Comfortable
  • It should be audible enough or no blockage from its sound for acoustic, while electric should sound well when plug (without any hissing or muffing)
  • Complete strings

It’s quite simple, but some people just go through buying a guitar without checking these things, resulting to returns or other repairs.

Practice chords and play a song

Learning chords is one of the hardest part of the beginner phase. However, to play guitar you’ll have to learn this first. To start learning, you’ll need to devote time and patience. An hour a day is fine. The technique here is to learn the easiest chords, which includes C, D, E, G, and A. Exclude the F and B first. From those chords, you can already play a song. Find those songs and sing through them. Once you learn a song you’ll b e able to learn a lot, you sing through a song, you improve timing, you improve chord transition, you don’t mind much about forming chords and so on. Learning songs is a technique to help you learn the chords quick. Over time you’ll gain the strength of the finger and thus helping you form more chords.

Learning guitar scales

You should learn guitar scales as early as you can. This will easily enhance your skills in both rhythm guitar playing and much especially with lead. This is where you understand the keys of a major scale and learn to transpose them in the fret board. It’s simple once you know how the major scale looks in the fret board. It stays the same among other chords as well. So a C major scale that starts at the 8th fret can turn into another key, let’s say G major when started on the third fret.

Once you knew these concepts and guitar tips, your playing also develops. It swiftly makes you become a beginner to an amateur and well-trained guitarist. You’ve got nothing to lose, start your journey as a true guitarist today.

How to Win at Online Games – Victory Can be Yours

Arcade fighting games

Image via Wikipedia

Let’s get real about our online gaming experiences. Winning is great, but probably the only thing better than winning is your opponent accusing you of cheating. It’s bad if you actually are cheating, but there’s ways of playing a game using methods that are so strong it might feel like cheating.

We’re going to argue that there’s nothing wrong with this.

A video game does not know honour, it only knows of winners and losers. A player should do whatever it takes to win the game they are playing if that is what provides them with enjoyment.

We’re going to go through a list of slightly dirty and underhanded tactics to allow you to truly win at video games.

Wall Glitches In certain First Person Shooter games, it is possible to position yourself against walls in a certain way so that you can see through them. The extra intelligence gained by the player in seeing the opponents early can help them gain a large positional advantage in preparation for an upcoming shootout. Certain Real Time Strategy games may have bugs that allow unintentional cliff walking to occur. Simply put, if it can be done without third party software or hacking methods, then it’s fair to do despite what some may claim.

Priority Exploitation Fighting games such as Tekken, StreetFighter and Mortal Kombat assign priorities to moves as to which will hit the other character and which wont. For example Street Fighter, David Sirlin wrote about winning a game using Rose’s low-strong punch repeatedly, due to its quick animation and high priority. While this upset a lot of people in the gaming community, it won him a game he believed he would have lost.

Learning the strong positions In the Tekken series, there is a character called Lei, perhaps one of the strongest in the game. The advantage of Lei over other character is his broad range of positions and stances to attack from. With correct execution of stance changes, he can be one of the most unpredictable fighters in the game. His ground position is probably one of the strongest as he has quick evasion and a number of devastating up kicks with good speed and range. You should abuse stronger positions and characters as much as you can to win games.

Meta Play Gaining access to an opposing clan’s or guild’s tactics in a multiplayer strategy game, or even an MMO is a great way to ensure victory. In the videogame Heroes of Newerth and Dota/Dota 2, a five hero line-up is picked from a wide pool of heroes. If you had the ability to infiltrate their clan, and know their line-up before your group played against them it would be a massive and nearly game-breaking advantage.

Turtling Part of winning a game is about not losing the game. In a matchup, an audience might appreciate wild and aggressive moves, but these are not always going to win you the game. Sometimes it is just best to play a defensive and safe strategy, and wait for your opponent to become frustrated and make mistakes. It’s not flashy but it wins games.

Hopefully you enjoyed these tips. Remember, don’t cheat at games but use every single method at your disposal to gain the upper hand. It will be much more fun that way.

The Five Most Popular Movies in History

If you’re a movie buff, then you can never have too many lists. Below are the five most popular movies in history according to box office gross. Since this list is not adjusted for inflation, you will probably see lists with a completely different top five. Here’s hoping you enjoy this one, nonetheless.

5. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

The third film based on the animated television series the Transformers.

The third film based on the animated television series the Transformers, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is one of two films released in 2011 to make the list of the five biggest movies of all time. While the film was popular with moviegoers, critics panned it for its thin plot, dull script and bad acting. Otherwise, it was praised for offering plenty of 3-D action.

4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The third of three Lord of the Rings movies directed by kiwi Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was filmed in New Zealand and follows the continuing adventures of the hobbitt Frodo in his quest to destroy the ring. In addition to its popularity at the box office, this is one of the most critically-acclaimed films of all time.

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2

The final installment of the world-renowned, record-breaking Harry Potter series, this film has been the highest-grossing of all in the series by British author J.K. Rowling. After being released in 2010, the film, as expected, has become one of the most watched and favourite among avid Harry Potter fans. The finale tale that has taken many years to tell has certainly gone out with a bang. In any case, it nearly sank the Titanic!

2. Titanic

While Titanic was not director James Cameron’s first blockbuster, it was his first movie to become the biggest box office hit ever. Starring Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslett, Titanic was praised for its special effects but was otherwise seen as little more than a vehicle for di Caprio, many of whose teenage fans are said to have seen the film several times. Were it not for these repeat viewers, it is doubted whether Titanic would have been as successful as it became.

1. Avatar

With the help of a lot of CGI, as well as high ticket prices, director James Cameron’s Avatar has been the only film to eclipse Titanic at the box office. With two sequels in the works, it’s possible that Cameron will have the top four movies on future lists. Whether they’ll displace Avatar is another matter. Like the Return of the King, this film earned great reviews to match its box office numbers.

There you have the five most popular movies in history. Did you find any of your favourites on the list?

Vampire Loving-Is the Theatre World Ready?

Supernatural romance is defined simply as any romantic fiction featuring ghosts, werewolves, vampires or similarly otherworldly characters. Tweens all over the world are going mad for it, but could the West End handle a spooky love story of its own? Should Theatreland be expecting one?

Twilight is, of course, the most famous of the supernatural romance novels but the genre’s popularity goes far beyond the antics of Bella and her sparkly undead beau; entire supernatural/gothic/paranormal romance sections are starting to pop up in bookshops. Books with moody black and red covers are flying off the shelves and young women just can’t seem to get enough of them, but how does this relate to London’s world-famous theatre district?

Theatre has a habit of picking up trends from other art forms: The recent spate of book and comic-based movie adaptations and remakes of classic films can be easily seen reflected in Broadway and the West End. For example, ten years ago the idea of a Spider-Man musical would be dismissed as ridiculous. Fast forward to 2011 and a multi-million dollar Broadway musical starring everyone’s favourite wall-crawling web-slinger is causing quite a stir on Broadway.

Spiderman

A great many of the shows currently in the West End are film adaptations. We’ve got Betty Blue Eyes, Billy Elliot, Ghost The Musical, Legally Blonde The Musical, Shrek The Musical, The Lion King, Cool Hand Luke, Driving Miss Daisy and The Ladykillers all running or about to run. With that many film adaptations running (and doing rather well) despite the gloomy economic climate, it surely can’t be long until Twilight or a similarly cult dark romance story finds its way to the West End.

Until then, shows like Wicked and Ghost The Musical will continue to fill the gap and entertain audiences comprised mainly of young women.

Wicked features a green-skinned witch who, among other things, falls in love with a mysterious prince from a far-off land. Admittedly, the love story is a sub-plot but it is still has a very strong supernatural romance feeling. Unsurprisingly, Wicked has one of the most dedicated fan groups of any West End show.

Elsewhere in the West End, Ghost The Musical is also catering to the supernatural romance crowd. The story sees a man murdered, but his love for his girlfriend and his wish to protect her prevents him from passing over. The show also features incredible special effects and some truly enchanting songs. Fans of Twilight will adore the powerful love story between a couple who occupy different worlds.

Wicked and Ghost The Musical have whetted the theatre-going public’s appetite for supernatural romance on stage but the West End is crying out for an unashamed spooky love-fest. Twilight may be too popular to make it on stage, but Linda Lael Miller’s novels would work just as well. As would Christine Feehan’s Carpathians series or pretty much anything by Teresa Medeiros.

The West End is ready, bring on Sexy Vampires: The Musical!
